Hello all. These are just some thoughts I will toss out, interesting or not. (Also assuming General boards are always OOC.) I guess attrition is a problem for all guilds, at least from what my lv60-raiding-friends-on-another-server have said. Since I'm still new to WoW and to RP, I don't know much about that. Maybe more marketing? It's up to Dae (or whoever with the "blurb") in-game, but when I visited the Thorium Brotherhood official forum at wow.com (usually only to find information on something specific), I did see a stickied thread on RP guilds. Guild alliances? Eh, I saw that phrase tossed about somewhere. Sounded like a good idea at the time. Looting rules? This might be more important if the size increases and we get more people from different guild or group "traditions." No idea. I did see another guild site a while back with very detailed looting rules, which seemed fair. Perhaps discuss any particular loot in an instance that you're explicitly after. I, of course--if you've ever grouped with me--don't mind either way, but others might. ...I miss fishing.

Posted in the Alliance guild-compilation thread. ^_^
At the risk of sounding sappy, it's my view that character interaction and bonding is more important than the mere number of members. The "quality" of people who respond to a guild recruitment channel message can't really be ascertained, and though there is an interview requirement, I'd rather not use that as a weeding-out technique. A more natural way to get more members is to invite friends or partymates who you think might fit in well - the way Snowmoon and Aimbora joined. That way the new member has at least one person they know from the outset. I'm toying with a kind of mentor system - if you invite, you act as the intermediary.
As far as I've seen alliances are used mainly for consolidating members for raiding. If anyone happens upon a guild who wants to ally for RP, that'd be wonderful!
Looting rules aren't an issue yet, but it looks to be the time-honored 'pass on BoPs and discuss'.
...We should catalogue the fish of Azeroth.

Of course quality is more important than quantity. Quantity helps with keeping the guild lively, but anyway, I like your mentoring idea. For finding people, I don't know what RP addons are the most common, but I guess FlagRSP is at the top. Members could be asked to at least have that on at all times, perhaps set to "looking for contact." It may or may not work, but if you organize an RP event near a public place, people might stop and notice. I've chanced upon a few friendly RPers before and occasionally keep tabs in my friends list; I may extend conversation if the situation warrants. These people are usually already in other guilds. My problem is that I cannot stand pick-up groups. I'd rather die in a cave, most of the time, than deal with that ick. This is really a knee-jerk reaction, though, so I should grow out of it. But all things considered, RP and then group questing is probably the best way to tell the quality of a player in relation to others, like you say. Except I'm no good at RP and am still new at WoW anyway. A lot of good that does! ;p (Oh yes, we can do that interview when you get back. I think I have a better grasp of lore now.)

I agree with Dae here. I don't see a strong reason to really go all out and recruit. If we see someone fun, we ask them if they're a good match. Focus more on quality interactions ;D
